This book provides
everything necessary for the standard three-semester or four-quarter calculus
sequence in the first two years of college. Its purpose, besides making it
possible to learn the mathematics of calculus, is to teach students how to use
it effectively and to show how knowing calculus can pay off no matter what
professions they decide to enter later on. The applications described here are
real and their presentations are self-contained. Students will not need any
previous experience with the fields from which the applications are drawn. The
prerequisites are the usual exposure to algebra and trigonometry, and Chapter I
reviews what is needed for getting started.
